Wild Black Cherries (Prunus serotina) are native to North America and were extensively used by Native Americans for their therapeutic properties. The fruit was eaten fresh or used in cooking applications, and the bark was believed to have astringent properties. Wild Cherries, like many other fruits, are a naturally rich source of flavonoids. They also contain calcium salts, potassium, lignins and beneficial tannins. This vegetarian product is a concentrated 10:1 extract and is one of the highest potency's available.
According to ongoing research, cherries are a rich source of antioxidants that can help maintain heart health, joint health and blood circulation. In addition to the antioxidants, cherries are rich in two important flavonoids - isoqueritrin and queritrin.
Cherries have been shown to lower levels of uric acid in the blood, which is one of the most common causes of gout pain. A study at the University of California Davis showed that consuming a serving of cherries daily significantly lowered the blood uric acid levels as much as 15 percent. Doctors and scientists believe that the anthocyanins in the cherries are what cause the decrease in blood urates and provide gout relief. They also feel that consuming anthocyanins on a regular basis may help lower heart attack and stroke risk, and are even studying the benefits of cherries relating to cancer.
